Hunter Valley getaway
A couple weekends ago we headed to the Hunter Valley for a pre-valentines celebration, actually that was the excuse but we don’t really celebrate Valentines lol but any excuse is good for a weekend getaway!
Australia’s oldest wine region is two hours’ drive from Sydney and is known for its internationally acclaimed semillon, family-owned wineries, innovative young winemakers, delicious restaurants and fresh produce.
Broken Back Range is a spectacular backdrop to this most picturesque of Australian wine regions. You’ll discover plenty of things to do — winery tours, festivals, farmers markets and splendid attractions. For a bird’s-eye view of the vineyards, gently soar in a hot-air balloon or go skydiving. ~ Visit NSW website.
We arrived to the Hunter Valley before our check in time so we decided to head for some early Vino at the cutest boutique winery around. Krinklewood. A bio-dynamic and organic winery. As we sat there under the shade with a glass of vino and a cheese platter we felt as if we were somewhere in the south of France! Highly recommend this place.
Accommodation
We then headed to our accommodation and it felt like we had taken a flight from France to New Mexico! This was definitely another gem in the Hunter.
We stayed at an amazing room we found at airbnb at a place called Casa la Vina they also have a website where you can find their full villas that feature a courtyard with spa and a fireplace! (perfect for the cooler months coming)
We offer guests and members an organic Hunter Valley wine tasting experience with a difference. Our French inspired boutique Hunter winery and cellar door is set amongst Provencal gardens, urns and fountains with the Wollombi Brook and Brokenback Range providing a spectacular backdrop. Not only are our wines certified organic, every aspect of our Hunter Valley vineyard and farm is managed in a bio-dynamic, organic, holistic and sustainable way which is evident in the individuality and superior quality of the wines. ~ Krinklewood
The room had everything we needed and a very comfy bed!

The food
For dinner we went to Bistro Molines, with it’s country-chic decor and vineyard views , it was the perfect spot for a romantic dinner. I personally was not a massive fan of the food except for their mussels!
Next day we had lunch at the Hunter’s Quarters and the food here was amazing!!! they also had a very talented musician playing. The atmosphere it’s more elegant and modern. One of their french waiters corrected me when I ordered the calamari ‘the squid you mean madam’ oops!
Not to be missed
We visited the village and a few different wineries, we also stopped by the convent. A luxury boutique hotel. The building is truly stunning and I’m dying to stay here next time. Their restaurant CIRCA is one of the most renowned restaurants around. It was fully booked when we tried to go so make sure you book in advance.
If you are looking for a nice getaway near Sydney this is the perfect spot!
