As one of the worlds largest cities it can be difficult trying to decide what is the best area to stay in Mexico city. CDMX has many safe areas to choose from. We’ve narrowed it down to our 4 best areas to stay in Mexico City, along with our favourite things to do nearby.

Roma Condesa

Popular leafy suburbs Roma & Condesa are the trendy hipster areas of town and one of the safest and best areas to stay in Mexico City. Beautiful to explore by foot, discover their tree lined avenues, trendy cafes, bars, restaurants & art deco buildings. Accomodation in this area is mostly Airbnbs and boutique hotels. As it’s one of the most popular areas for tourists and expats, it’s a good idea to book early. These suburbs have many beautiful alfresco cafes and restaurants around its parks and avenues, notably Fuente Cibeles and Parque Mexico.

Polanco

Polanco is one of the most upscale neighbourhoods in the city often called the Beverly Hills of Mexico. Think designer shopping, Luxury hotels and up market international dining. A very safe area to base yourself and another one of the best areas to stay in Mexico City. With some of the best hotels, popular sights & amazing dining. Take a stroll down Avenida Presidente Masaryk with its many boutiques and restaurants.

The area is also scattered with many trendy restaurants, cafes and bars to choose from.

It has some of the more budget friendly accomodation options. Centro is safe in the main tourist zones but be aware of pick pockets, back streets and walking at night.

The easiest and safest way to get around Mexico City is by Uber. Theres usually one not too far away and you don’t have to worry about cash. In addition double decker city tour buses operate on different loops around the city. You can buy a hop on hop off pass for the main landmarks.
