Entering the front gates Eden already begins to live up to its name. Eden Health Retreat is blessed to be set amongst 400 acres of lush green rainforest and pristine rivers. Tucked away deep in the tranquil Currumbin Valley.
Eden Health retreat is Australia longest running luxury wellness retreat. In 2020 while most of us were in lockdown, the retreat went through an extensive refurbishment. Opening 12 new luxury villas along with brand new dining lodge & yoga pavilion.
Before our stay at Eden Health Retreat, we really didn’t know what to expect. We’d never attended any wellness style stays let alone trips with large groups. For first timers like us attending an off grid retreat with a group of strangers for 7 days seemed a little daunting. But as the days at Eden unfolded so did our mindset.
The Eden experience
A stay at Eden is generally 7 days 6 nights with all accomodation, meals (my favourite) and classes included. What we loved about about Eden is that you have full control of your experience and wellness journey. You can dive in to all classes on offer from day one, ease yourself into them through the week or just relax and unwind at your own pace. Designed to cater for people with any fitness level, the daily classes are a great opportunity to try something new. Each evening, bespoke daily schedules are given out detailing what’s on offer for the following days activities, classes or spa bookings.
One of the unique aspects of Eden is that it’s alcohol, caffeine, smoking free along with no Wifi or phone reception. A rare opportunity for us to completely disconnect and digitally detox. It was amazing to see the dynamic of the group evolve over the stay, with everyone chatting and bonding throughout classes and social meals times.
What one of our days at Eden looked like:
- 5:55 AM- Wake up
- 6:15 AM – Morning Yoga or Guided Bush walk
- 7:30 AM – Breakfast served
- 8:30 AM – Flying Fox
- 10:00 AM – Morning Tea
- 10:30 AM – Age Corrective Facial
- 12:00 PM – Lunch Served
- 1:30 PM – Sound Bowl Healing
- 3:30 PM – Afternoon Tea
- 4:00 PM – Pilates
- 6:30 PM – Dinner Served
- 7:30 PM – Glow Worm Walk
Accommodation
There are multiple accommodation options at Eden Health Retreat. We opted to stay in the newly added luxury suites nestled in the hillside overlooking the valley. There’s also the cozy Deluxe Suites with rainforest views to choose from.
Dining
Abuzz with chatter of daily experiences & excitement of what delicious creative meal will be served up next, the dining lodge is the social hub of Eden. Each meal specially created with chefs and nutritionists to bring an inspiring & nourishing seasonal dish. All gluten free, loaded with colourful veggies and absolutely mouthwatering. With 5 amazing meals served daily theres no going hungry. Best thing is at the end of our stay we got all the recipes to recreate our favourites at home.
Classes / activities
All classes and activities are completely optional at Eden. We started our mornings with the wake up class at 6:15am, alternating between Yoga or Qigung (similar to Tai Chi). Mixed in with daily classes of Pilates, boxing & sound healing are activities such as zip lining, hiking, group games and challenges.
Spa
The spa at Eden has a huge range of optional healing therapies & beauty treatments to choose from. Highly recommend you get a facial and a relaxation massage during your retreat. Also, the more in depth treatments like the Bio Chemistry testing are super interesting and a great opportunity to learn more about your body and nutrition.
Facilities
With a large fully equiped gym, a pristine heated fresh water pool, hot spa, sauna/steam room along with tennis and basketball courts, there’s no getting bored! Above all we loved ending the day with a sauna to relax the muscles, a sure recipe for a good nights sleep.
Our takeaway
As mentioned at the start, attending a 7 day retreat was a bit daunting but as the days evolved so did our mindset.
In this day and age where we are all so depending on our digital connection, having it removed opened our eyes. True connection happens when we can fully be present in our conversations, with nature or sitting at a meal. This was truly felt at Eden, not just amongst the two of us but with the other beautiful people attending the retreat. Being in a place like Eden helped us restore, replenish and press a hard reset in our bodies and mind. Our biggest takeaway was realising that at any giving time we can choose to pause and put our health and minds first.
Having all the teachers remind us of the importance of moving and putting our bodies first has inspired us to incorporate many of our experiences we had at Eden into our daily lives.
