From Bali to Sumba: The Journey Begins
Our adventure started at Denpasar, Bali. Nihi Sumba’s stellar service was evident from the get go. Their team took care of everything through check in and boarding at Bali’s airport. Upon landing in Sumba, the welcome continued. We were greeted by the Nihi team and escorted to an open air safari jeep, loaded with fresh face towels, cold coconuts, and snacks for the hour long scenic journey to the edge of wilderness. The safari transfer took us through picturesque traditional villages and dense jungles, setting the tone for an unforgettable experience ahead.
Treetop Villas: Our Personal Paradise
We were lodged in one of the two story Kanatar Villas. Picture sipping morning coffee from a spacious second floor balcony overlooking an endless horizon of jungle and ocean. On the first floor, the open air living area gives way to a sprawling deck and a private infinity pool. The second floor features a large master bedroom complete with a canopy bed that offers dramatic ocean views.
A Taste of Luxury
From international cuisine to local Sumbanese flavors, the food at Nihi was beyond incredible. We couldn’t get enough of the impeccable service either. From the daily seafood dinners on the balcony of Ombak Restaurant to fresh lunches by the seaside, we felt truly spoilt. Evenings, we were treated to a spectacular white party, and another night featured traditional performances that brought the local culture to life.

The famous NIHI horses
The highlight of our stay at Nihi has to be the sunset horse ride along the beach and the unique experience of swimming with horses. You may have seen the viral videos of horses galloping along the beach. It’s a surreal feeling to see a herd of horses gallop freely along the shoreline each day. its certainly an iconic symbol of Nihi.
NIHI Spa Safari: Wellness in the Wilderness
The Nihi Spa Safari was another unforgettable experience. After a jeep ride through the lush jungle, we were greeted by stunning ocean views, coconuts, and a healthy breakfast. Then, it was time for our relaxation massages. The massage hut sits on the edge of a cliff overlooking the ocean. Imagine the sound of the waves and the gentle sea breeze enveloping you as you unwind.
Things to do at NIHI
Nihi Sumba offers a variety of activities that allow guests to explore the beautiful Sumba Island. From the blue waterfall hike to traditional village tours and world class surfing, there’s something for every kind of adventurer. Our favourite being the swimming with the Nihi Horses. Snorkeling, fishing, stand up paddle boarding, and jet skiing are just the icing on the cake. And theres always the option to just grab a book and relax by the pool with a cold coconut.
